Pacific Northwest Raptors Ltd. is hiring the following positions:
- Full time biologist position:
The right candidate will have a degree in biology (or similar field), strong public speaking skills, multitasking skills, be creative, have some experience working with and training animals, be able to work hard outside for long periods of time, and most importantly, have a strong passion for animals and birds of prey. The candidate will be responsible for directing volunteers and some staff, preforming daily flying demonstrations, and assisting with the training of all raptors on site.
- Bird Control Officer at Nanaimo Regional District Landfill
This job employes practical aspects of falconry, using trained raptors to deter pest species at the landfill. It is a challenging and rewarding opportunity, learning about raptor behaviour and observing many other bird behaviours. Candidates must be physically fit, able to work long hours in outdoor conditions (sometimes inclement weather) and be interested in birds of prey.
- Intern):
This is an unpaid, full time, position where the candidate will primarily assist with the general care of birds at medical clinic and on going care facility, liaise with staff and veterinarians in respect to individual bird treatment and be responsible for the small medical clinic (cleaning, record keeping, organization, supplies etc.) They will also assist daily with the general day to day care and training of 70 + raptors and public education.
*Preference given to those in animal health care education.
